Check the root flare
The trunk should transition naturally into the roots. Planting too deeply or leaving circling roots uncorrected can limit stability and long-term growth.
Match the tree to the site
Drainage, sun, mature size, utilities, pavement, and nearby structures matter as much as the tree’s appearance at purchase.
Water for establishment
Newly planted trees need consistent establishment watering without remaining saturated. Mulch should protect the root zone without being piled against the trunk.
